I agree with Scott's comments (see below) re being overwhelmed on the amount of content that has been produced already for this course.
In terms of characteristics I actually think the group is quite diverse and without reading all the mail/comments it is difficult to gain any overall statistics on this. I think everyone is very interested in technology and the application to teaching and that comes automatically from the title of the course I suppose.
