    Alice,

I agree. Very easy to use. Your post reminded me of something that I once wanted to try and this software might make this possible. One activity that I asked my students to engage in was peer group tuition to help then to share the great range of otherwise hidden creative software skills that they’ve developed. Students could work in pairs or as individuals to present on an overhead screen, a technique of their choosing. The activity was a great success. However, what I also wanted to make were screencasts of this activity. At the time I couldn’t use Screenflow, so Screencast-o-matic might be a solution the next time.

I did all four surveys and they came out positively. The only function that I can determine is that they serve to check/remind prospective students of some of the specific challenges and basic technological requirements of online study. I tweaked my answers (lied a little) and the results were still positive. The value of the surveys obviously depends on the ability of the surveyee(?) to give an honest and objective appraisal of their skills and learning preferences. Such surveys might be of more value if they were perhaps followed up with some form of e-taster course which might perhaps give both student and provider a better idea about a suitability for study.

    Hi Jim,

I’m inclined to agree that the current of display is not ideal, particularly as the number of posts grow. I’m finding the navigation slightly off putting. It would be good to have the option to see a greater number of posts listed, say 30 or more, so that one might scroll down without the clunkiness of moving through what potentially may become many pages. Or if this is the only way to display posts then maybe, as you suggest, better categorisation might be an answer.

The option to reveal further posts, in the same way Facebook allows you to reveal more comments might be good. (Perhaps I’m being lazy?) Google+ is an idea, but only if you have familiarity with it right now. I think it’s good to have the posts here, but alternatives to display and navigation could be better, particularly as I guessing that many members are engaging in this with what ever little spare time they have.

PS. Nice to see a screencast as a post. It encouraged me view it! Wow! I really am lazy.

    Hello,

I’m jumping in here as the group title appears to fit what I do. My name is Tim, I work in a F2F environment with Sancha, who has posted already, and I also am Programme Leader of a fully online Graphic Design & Illustration degree with Interactive Design Institute (IDI), a private online learning provider whose courses are validated by the University of Hertfordshire. This has given me an insight into the pros and cons of online learning for both staff, tutors and the organisations. I have also participated in small-scale CMC (Computer Mediated Communication) activity and didn’t take to it, largely because the group was too small and the asynchronous nature made it awkward and unnatural, whereas so far —and these are very early days—ocTEL appears to be a well structured platform which is thriving.

Looking at the questions posed for reflection, I think that it’s too early for me to be able to identify the challenges for this MOOC . Everyone’s experiences and expectations are obviously so varied. Instead of challenges it appears to present a host of opportunities for sharing ideas and dialogue. I am interested as to how a MOOC might come into play within Art, Design and Creativity, and perhaps that’s something that might be explored over the coming weeks.

    Best,

    Tim
