Yes, Graham, you said “The main issue here was that there wasn’t enough reliable and detailed description and meta data to make a judgement about the resource without downloading it and spending time looking at it.” I think that really is the problem. I spent quite a lot of time searching through Jorum, which I had never used, but finally left empty handed.
The category structure is not very useful-at least for me. I was looking for English language teaching and learning materials. (I teach English at a uni in Japan with some very high level students.)
I tried looking at the few items that seemed potentially relevant, but it does take a long time to load previews or download and progress though. The file listings are pretty much opaque.
I wonder if a commenting system would be helpful? Users could build up better metadata, perhaps. But it might all be noise.
Ted O’NeillMember“down with Elluminate!”
Agreed. I just want a nice, simple recording I can grab and go. Plain old mp3/mpg/youtube recordings would be easiest. I don’t need all the bells and whistles. A podcast subscription would make it easy. I have loads of time on the train everyday.
Or, is there a convenient way to dump elluminate into my phone or iPod that I’m missing?

Gary mentioned a few students were at IATEFL in Liverpool. Wish I could have gone. Were you part of that group?

I just had my first visit to Barcelona last month and loved it. Continued on to Valencia and Seville for the INTED2013 and TESOL-Spain Conferences. It was an amazing visit and now really feel like I should try to study some Spanish. Never too late, is it?

I’m planning to experiment lightly with Google Apps in place of Moodle for a short elective course starting in a few weeks. I’ll pass this along to some of my colleagues in #coetail as well. Thanks! http://www.coetail.com/yis/cohort-2/
