    Hello,

My Big Question concerns the uptake, or not, of TEL in research -led institutions.  To address it I’d like to form a group which is composed of a mixture of Learning Technologists, Academics, Students, and maybe even a Senior Manager if we can get one on board.  Then I’d like to participate in discussion to explore the issues from different perspectives.

The first person to accept this open invitation gets to choose the name of the virtual institution.

    Hi Martin

I carry out virology research. All of my virus work is in containment laboratories. The nature of this work in the uk is such that a small number of people do this kind of work in each institution. I am particularly interested in seeing if TEL can support training to work in these containment laboratories. This would be helpful to people in the UK and overseas.

    Thanks, Sareen

I am a research/teaching academic in Psychology in Australia. I am currently at the Australian National University, but will be moving to Swinburne University in a few months.  ANU has a very strong push for Research Led Education.  My understanding of how they are defining this is that the content of the courses is based on the research the lecturer is actually doing.

I think there are other possible definitions. Teaching that is based on education research (perhaps also called empirically based practice in teaching).  And another that I think is possible, but rarer is students learning by conducting their own research.

Is this what you are talking about Martin?

Hello, I’m a senior lecturer in public health and have been teaching and help run a masters programme which is a fully online distance education programme, with students all over the world. I have a research background in health services/public health, and have done a bit of pedagogical research which I’d like to increase.

    regards
