Tom BuckleyParticipant
I found this really enlightening.
Tom BuckleyParticipantAppropriate technology appropriately used is kind of very important to me. Sometimes in a rush to raise engagement of everyone we grasp for things that actually aren’t properly planned, thought out or appropriate for a learning outcome or task. This in the end proves counter-productive. This is why I feel ‘appropriate’ is the most important word in learning technology lexicon.
Tom BuckleyParticipant@karl_rasmussen i like the time difference. It means there’s always some things happening all the time. I tend to get a bit locked on to things so it keeps me interested. Realistically most people in the UK will watch the recorded webinar purely because actually in the middle of the day is kind of when everything else happens at work!
Tom BuckleyParticipantI wouldn’t worry about fitting. There are a lot of very niche or very specific groups being formed in the fora. We can all learn from each others experiences and we might suppose when the teaching element starts this group may disband and reform.
Can I ask a question, it seems a lot of people are framing there experiences of doign TEL or e-Learnign as and instructor or as an insititution. Has anyone actually done a module or course completely online? Or very heavily online?
Tom BuckleyParticipantThus far I see a lot of different backgrounds within the forum spaces and a lot of different exposure to TEL. I think the most startling commonality is the self depreciation everyone displays. Things have to be *insert name here* proof or I didn’t get on well with this or that. There is certainly some acclimatization going on to MOOCs more chaotic elements and some general disarray/annoyance

MOOC – Massive Open Online Course but sometimes you’l see xMOOC and cMOOC but generally that’s just people being a little pretentious.
HE or HEI is higher education or higher education institution, Universities and the like.
FE – is further education. Six form colleges, stand alone colleges for awards up to and including Bachelor degrees. Traditionally more vocational degree courses BUT HE and FE can overlap in content quite considerably in the UK.
QAA – quality regulator in the UK
HEFCE – Funding body within England
BECTA – Now defunct learning technology quango
CPD or CPE Continued Professional Development or Experience
WBA OR WBPA – work or workplace based assessment
Tom BuckleyParticipantHi Megan
Part of my role is to support courses in going fully online from a traditional delivery method in the Health and Life Sciences but I have a background in social science personally.
Could I join any group for this activity?
Yours
Tom
