    Hi Joseph

Great activity, first engage and study with resources, then try to reduce the topic to the essential. The final product as audio/video interview is a nice variation and very challenging. It does not always have to be text. As you assume, students or at least one within the group, should be familiar with producing and handling digital…[Read more]

    Hi Moira
You point at an important issue, the need to be open and visible.
Looking back at my classes, I teach web technologies to adults in FE (face-to-face), participants create a webpage and make their work visible in the classroom or on the group webserver. Sometimes other ask a peer ‘How did you do it’ and discussion or presentation get…[Read more]

    Hi Moira
Very interesting experience this shifting from individual to social, the competition task made you curious to start looking what other participants are doing.

Not sure if this would work in f2f settings. Maybe it could depend if participants know each other.

    Hi Louise

Sugata Mitras ‘whole in the wall’ experiment is a great example showing that children are able to learn social and autonomous. The children even had to learn and teach each other english before understanding how to search the interent. See videos at Explorer activity 1.4. What’s the theory?

I think autonomous can be for to both. A s…[Read more]

    Hi Ghizzi

Was on Carpe Diem MOOC too,  and had the same impression about forums. To keep my discussions manageable I focused on the group forums only. Small world, but in my case it worked well. Think forum browsing experience could be improved by the system or usability, e.g display headings using some folding technique, similar to posts on…[Read more]

@Graham, thanks for sharing. For my work I need to evaluate the discussion capabilities in wordpress blogs, so your suggestion comes right here.
Tapatalk says it will work on existing forum systems including wordpress, thats great. As I understand users then need to use the Tapatalk App on their mobile phones. Will check out.

  • There is debate about awarding credit for attendance but given the style of this course we feel it’s important to find mechanisms for you to see who also is active within each week. Click on this badge link to ‘check-in’ and see who else is also active in this topic.

    Hi Louise

Thinking from an IT point of view ‘collecting web content is about collecting links’.

In the grey bar on the top right of each post you see a number (next to the REPLY link), clicking on this number will show up the url to the post in the browser url field. You could then share or collect this link, but need to copy the link and add…[Read more]

Me too i prefer using forums for communication, because i am comfortable with it and in context of learing because it make me feel to be part of a group that focus on the same interest. Recently, in MOOCs i have used Google+ Community Groups to communicate and share.

One important criteria for me is mobile capabilities of the channel. Often…[Read more]
