Name | Paul Rettey |
Job title | Learning Technologist |
Organisation | The College of North West London |
Bio | Optimistic by nature and I like asking a lot of Socratic questions. I’ve been involved with computers since the ZX Spectrum, but I never really went the programmer route. Not to say I can’t do programming but it never interested me. I’m more interested in the application of technology and ‘playing’. I’ve been through a number of careers and started as Computer Graphics Artist even before it was a recognised profession. I secured that job because I had a portfolio of work sent to a national magazine and won prizes!. But I decided I needed to do something serious and started as a humble support desk operative, progressing onto an analyst programmer. I was then made redundant, but wanted to give something back and decided to become a teacher at my local college. It was here that I found my vocation as a user of technology in learning. With the help of our e-learning manager I set up our teams blackboard environment which helped us deliver success, and helped me get a grade 2 during ofsted, This clinched it for me, I decided to focus on getting into the e-learning industry. I’m still learning, which is good, but have enough behind me now to at least advise others on how to make it work successfully. |
