Thanks all for the comments. I am now back to ocTEL after two weeks of exams – invigilating not sitting them, but it still took up all my hours and energy. It’s catch up time!
Rose, I think that you raise an important issue about staff agreeing to do work, but then being too busy and not delivering. I suppose this should become part of the c…[Read more]

I’ve written here about a project to stream lectures to an overflow room…
Like both Julie and Lisa, I found that staffing issues were a key aspect of the project.

I don’t recall if I looked at anything from McGraw Hill in particular, but in general I’ve found them too inflexible for our purposes. The academics I deal with want everything bespoke!

I recommend looking at GRE subject tests (http://www.ets.org/gre/subject/about) for examples of MCQs at higher levels in Bloom’s taxonomy.

I think we have to decide what is best in each situation. An alternative with large classes is to use multiple markers, which may give more personal feedback, but can be inconsistent, so moderation is needed, which can lead to extra work and delays.
It’s not so much a case of staff time being “saved” by using e-assessment, but that the time is…[Read more]

I hope it works out well for you, Elizabeth.
Trying out new software can be frustrating, so it is useful to have feedback here from different people who have tried out different things.
