Hi Teresa, I am so impressed with the detail and work that has gone into this. It blows mine right out of the water!

I think the experience would clearly be deep and authentic as it appears to fit with the mode of teaching (and learning) you might ordinarily use in a language classroom- especially as this is set as a homework activity.

    I…[Read more]

    Hi Joseph,

    Some reflections:

I personally like the use of YouTube at the end of the course but -perhaps some of the learners who are more ‘camera shy’ could present the scripted interview in a different way? Perhaps through a video- Powtoon, Wideo or Go Animate?

I like that there are full opportunities for a deep and collaborative learning…[Read more]

Hi Andy, I like this approach. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Individual/Directed- produce a resource for your peers to use: Smore/Infogr.am/Piktochart/Joomag

Directed/Social- Develop an essay/plan/guide with your peers in Google/Wiki

Social/autonomous- Love the idea of blogging here. Use of forums/ Google+ communities would work here too.…[Read more]

    Hi Gary!
I’d definitely agree with you about the push for employability affecting the choices we make with the curriculum and technology in positive ways. I teach on A level programmes and live on dreams of a different future. Anyone else out there working on making their A level programmes more autonomous?

I’d agree with this, Vanessa. I am in the process of writing a blog at present about the ‘veneer of autonomy’ that I think exists in my classroom at present. If someone observed my students in class, they’d fully believe they had strong independent working skills yet they still rely on me for the answers. I actually believe that using technology…[Read more]

Hi mchaudhry- I accept that not all students are open to contributing to chat areas and forums even- having experienced this with my own classes. How do we cater for these learners online? Has anyone found some good solutions for this situation? (I know I’m slightly straying from the point of this activity…)

It’s taken us time to get people on board and maintaining momentum is tricky but we’re getting there… Slowly but surely. It’s just a real culture change for everyone- a move away from hiding away all your great ideas and resources!

We have a whole mix of ways. Lots of it can be explored here- where I’ve written about some of what we do on our external blog (just started).
