Only just catching up! Fear is an interesting concept. I’m studying the Post Graduate certificate in academic practice at the moment and we have regular discussions about the cultural element of fear and values and beliefs. There are departments, faculties, small clusters of staff who feel it is not worth trying out a new technology because of the ‘this is how we do things here’ attitude. Interesting in finding a balance in how one can innovate and enhance learning, teaching and assessment whilst working within these culture sets. This is one of many barriers but I like the 3 A’s and the 3 p’s methodologies as tools for working with staff in moving forwards. These tools make explicit what we would do implicitly.
