How easy was it to understand how this tool worked?
The demo that utilised the Xerte toolkit was extremly useful and outlined all the possibilities available to the authorHow quickly and easily would you find it to use?
As I am relatively eperienced with sing technology in learning, I think it would not take me long to figure out the various…[Read more] -

AS with everything in learning, it is all down to the approach. I once worked with a colleague who refused to ever use videos in lesson as it was “copping out!”. I would then see him spend 30 mins incoherently stumble through a topic, leaving the learners dazed and confused. A short 5 minute video would have prevented this. If you present the…[Read more]

Thanks Guy
AS pessimistic as it seems, it is unfortunately the reality of our education system. It is by no means the fault of the teachers, who i’m sure would love to try and inspire their students through deeper learning techniques.
I suppose the flip side to the argument is this…would having the learners pass their assessments with…[Read more]

@keithsmyth Unfotunately I feel we work in an industry where assessment methods will always be chosen on convenience when possible. The irony is that technology can offer some of the more ‘convenient’ assessment methods. I think this brings us back to one of the early points in the course regarding ‘engaging staff’. So long as practitioners are…[Read more]

Good post. I too am interested in utilising social media in teaching and learning, hoping to hear some success stories next week.
I think most of us would admit to being strategic learners for the same reasons you mention in your blog, I know I feel the same.

Hi Glenn
I too would be interested to know about the participation levels on the group discussion and whether the participants utilised other forms of communication (eg. twitter?) more often than the forum.
I think wiki/webinar based projects can be extremely useful, however my concern is that they are very much a dedicated HE/ Adult learner…[Read more]

“strategic” learners don’t just want to please the lecturer and earn high marks just for the sake of high marks: they want to earn high marks in order to boost their employability; they want to follow assessment requirements because they have often been told that these requirements and criteria align closely to key professional attri…[Read more]

Hi everyone
firstly, thank you for your comments and I’m glad the analogy made sense.
I think I must clear up that I am not bashing the iPad’s place in the classroom. I have used them in the past to both great success and great failure. My point in the blog was that, at their core, the iPad and the teaching machine are one and the same. Both…[Read more]
