Week 0: Learning the ropes webinar recording

April 30, 2014 in Course Information

Thank you to all who were able to make it to the week 0 webinar. This webinar was an opportunity to meet some of our tutors (some of whom are ocTEL graduates) and share ideas for getting the most out of a course like ocTEL. If you missed this session recordings are available. You can view the Blackboard Collaborate recording which lets you also replay the session chat or view the recording streamed to YouTube. After watching this recording you can claim your webinar week 0 badge here.

Next week’s webinar will be on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 – 12:30pm BST (timezone conversion) where Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou and James Little will be talking about Strategies for Learning Technology. Here are more details about the session.

  1. Dear Maren

    “Lurkers” vs “Silent participants”?

Here are a few other terms that could be used:

    vicarious learners?
    silent participants?
    viewer?
    Non-public user?
    legitimate peripheral participator?
    eyeballers?
    virtual participant?
    marginal participant?
    onlooker?
    passive observer?
    cognitive apprentices?
    potential member?
    proximate member?
    sympathiser?
    supporter?
    listener?
    tacit member?

See Let’s get more positive about the term ‘lurker’

Which term best reflects the degree/ style/ of learning? If you read a book, but never talk about it, have you learned any less?

    Best wishes

    Charlotte
