I’ve been thinking about the tips (enablers) provided by Kyriaki in Week 1 webinar (see my blog http://www.the-edge-uk.org/view-from-the-edge.html) BTW I’m having problems responding to comments (Tracey, sorry).
Anyway. How do you demonstrate evidence of impact? It’s so easy to say but so hard to do. The challenge being how does one separate this out i.e. how can one say that it was because of ‘this’ that ‘that’ happened?
I’ve done quite a bit of work on this with a colleague Geoff Rebbeck. We have been using a double negative approach to try and isolate the contribution of technology to teaching, learning and assessment. We employ a phrase ‘technology in action’ to describe what we are talking about i.e not simply describing what is being done but focusing on what is actually happening.
‘If I had not done X then I would not have been able to do Y’
Since 2 negatives make a positive, by using the double negative we can validate the positive contribution (impact) of technology in action.The key source of validation has to be the learner/student but it could equally be useful with other stakeholders.
A simple example from a organisation point of view, also showing how the statement can be refined:
• “If we had not introduced Padlet learners would not have had a voice to express opinions”
• ”If we had not introduced Padlet learners would not have had a place to express an immediate opinion”
• ”If we had not introduced Padlet learners would not have had a place to share their opinions with other learners immediately”This could then be validated by asking learners.
