Hi Peter
Interesting – a comparison with Yammer might be useful. As you say, Twitter will continue to dominate because it has ‘a much larger userbase and many active educator networks’. However a lot of academics shy away from it so alternatives are always welcome.

I agree with the other comments that this is a great concept – learning to teach online while also being a student. However I would sound a note of caution – have you ever run this Jim? I can empathise with this Jim – long term, institution (& cross institution) wide projects are often very fraught because of politics and the undue influence of key individuals. And another very specific issue we had when we employed an external to develop our initial Second Life simulations was IP – who owned the rights to what? However overall it was successful as we simply didn’t have the in house expertise at the time. As you say Peter there are always pros & cons.

… and as an addendum to this – academic staff who are involved in development projects often don’t assert themselves and say they’re too busy. However they often don’t deliver either, which is worse.

Staffing be it technical (or learning tech) in this case or academic as in Lisa’s example and several distance learning programmes I have known here is a vexed issue. Too many assumptions are often made about the availability of already busy and over-committed people.
