So when does a group go from being small to medium sized? I am a lecturer in HE who is interested in learning technology but definitely not an expert, though I expect some of my colleagues think that I am! I love trying new things in my teaching and technology plays a big part in that. I have tried lots of things over the last few years and hope that this course will introduce me to more. I do think the education profession can be slow to embrace change and that can be frustrating. In 2006 I tried to get a project off the ground where my PGCE students could use Blackberries to create online reflective diaries. I could not get funding for something that seemed to far out there at the time. Think I was ahead of my time!
Interesting example – I just took part in a webinar on using classroom response systems in classroom (and other teaching). We can assume now that most students (UK) have a mobile (smart) phone and using wifi we can use web based classroom response systems such as Socrative which are free and independent from institutional IT systems (except of wifi). Generally I have found that learning technologies have become easier to use and access which makes them less the reserve of IT chsampions 😉
