I really like the idea of poetry – often forgotten genre. I’m not sure who the intended audience would be, but the Wimeo (Thank you for the new resource) is a nice introduction to some key elements when approaching poetry (learning outcome 1 ‘Outline the stages of approaching a poem for the first time’ – Tick!). I did have trouble keeping up with the pace of the slides, but as it’s online and has a pause and back button, learners are in control. You went on to give a variety of options for note taking and sharing with the instructor, which all seem valid. I would use the google docs, simply because that’s what my institution uses and I’m not sure I want to make any more internet real estate I have to keep an eye on. Learning outcome 2 ‘Apply the stages to a poem of your choice’ & 3 ‘Use comments in a Google document’ would both seem to be well catered for with the google doc element (supported by your online ‘how to’ video).
You have also got back up ideas (via google docs) if the video doesn’t work, and also the recourse to students own smart phones if wifi et.c is an issue.
All bases covered in a well-though out online activity.
I was particularly struck by how you thought this would suit an autistic student of yours. Just this week, we have encountered a student issue in our English language classes – a student with Aspergers syndrome, who cannot function in a regular classroom: with pair and group work, producing language under pressure, responding to teacher questions in front of other students, and so on. Perhaps more and more, technology will be able to help a wider mix of students that were not catered to in the past.
Thank you – and I may steal some of your ideas! 😉
