yes, institutions seem to be a bit pushme pullyou about social media, with some much more risk averse than others. Externally facing blogs have been a constant panic area, but I think things are finally relaxing on this where I am. My current view is that if blogs are integrated into a properly organised online community/VLE, and integrated into the curriculum you get the chance of a more organised network of practitioners learning from each other and developing digital skills. However, my experience tells me that effective use of blogs in teaching is a skill that is widely under-developed in institutions. If students find institutional provision indequate they will go off and discuss elsewhere in any case.
