Reading these posts I feel I could have written them!
Education has killed any curiosity and any opportunity of self-determined learning (I found reading about heutagogy this week particularly enlightening! http://heutagogycop.wordpress.com/history-of-heutagogy/).
We have a hard job in front of us and we will probably never see the education…[Read more]

I kept getting confused with this activity trying to answer as a learner when all I want to know is if I am prepared as a teacher! I’m glad you raised that question and looked it up!
Checking the links that you shared I was expecting the questions to be similar to the learner’s questions: management skills, teaching skills, computer skills,…[Read more]

After this week’s reading I am starting to reflect on the concept of Heutagogy (http://heutagogycop.wordpress.com/history-of-heutagogy/).
It’s early days for me, but I have the feeling that I none of the methods we are using at the moment is the answer, at least not in their present form.
    We have:
“learners TAKING PART in their own…[Read more]

I agree with all of you and I was asking myself the same questions until I read some of this week’s resources. My focus has now shifted from the technology and how we use it towards students’ roles and attitudes.
I tried flipping the classroom and like “mchaudhry” had mixed results. I also tried directed study tasks but I’m sorry to report that…[Read more]

    Hi Mark,
I teach face to face, but I use online tools as well.
    Some of them are:
    1. We use Blackboard and I have EVERYTHING posted there: subject outline, assessment details, assessment submissions, videos, audios, weekly summaries, links to electronic dictionaries and online lessons and activities that I found useful and to resources such as…[Read more]

  • I agree with Tony. There is a big range of interests and experience amongst the participants of ocTEL2014 and that the challenge for the course is to cater for all those different experiences and preferences.
I think that these groups are a great way to help us focus on our particular interests rather. I expect the seminars to be quite general to…[Read more]

I think of Facebook as a personal social tool and as such I find it a bit dangerous/scary. I never know who can see what or where my comment or pictures may end up (even when you use the different privacy options!) so I use it very cautiously. If I was going to use it for professional networking I would start a new account separate to my personal…[Read more]

    I’m not sure I I understand Damon’s groups.
    A. The first group the people in charge of delivering this MOOC and we are “the others” (participants)?
    B. We (participants) are the first group and our students are “the others”?
    C. None of the above?! πŸ™‚
