Great to ‘meet’ you all 🙂

I’m pretty new to TEL for music. I thought this course was a great opportunity to combine my current work in TEL with my background in music (research and teaching).

I’m particularly interested in TEL for music in an HE context, but wonder whether there are themes/challenges/solutions in common across all levels of the curriculum. I’ve been investigating a range of tools and technologies, but at the moment I’m thinking about:

Music-related activities in Moodle — I’ve had a quick look at the tutorial on how to read fourteenth-century French music notation at DIAMM
(http://diamm.nsms.ox.ac.uk/moodle/). It’s been there a while now, so it doesn’t have the most contemporary-looking interface, but is open access.

and

How developments in the ‘internet of things’ can be used in music education. E.g. The team behind the God Object project are developing replicas of the Turkish Ney (as part of the REACT Objects Sandbox) that include breath sensors etc that they hope will allow it to be taught online. I’m intrigued by the possibilities of networked music for learning — I know very little about this, and hadn’t really thought about it before, despite seeing a number of networked performances. I’ll try to think/post some more about this soon. Looking forward to talking to you all further.
