Steven Verjans started the topic Focus for scoop.it topic? in the forum Scoop-it Topic curators 11 years ago
Via Twitter, Rose asked a pertinent question about having our co-curated topic on scoop.it.
“Hi Steven I’m not sure how best to use our <s>#</s><b>octel</b> Scoopit. There’s so much aggregation going on elsewhere I’m not sure we need it.”
Chris Jobling replied “every method of curation has immediate value for the curators and later their visitors. Think museum.”, to which Rose replied: “thanks Chris – though I think it would be good to agree some goals so we can use <s>@</s><b>scoopit</b> automated tools <s>#</s><b>ocTEL</b>”
My reply in this conversation was: “it’s an interesting question to reflect on. Should we have a joint focus for this topic or each have our own? <s>#</s><b>ocTEL</b>”
Usually, when I co-curate a topic, I know the other curators closely, either because we work in the same department, or have worked on a collaborative project, so the common focus is quite obvious. In the case of ocTEL, we are a very heterogeneous group of people, who happen to be using scoop.it for curating their own topics with a specific focus.
So, should we find a common focus for our topic, or do we let it grow organically?
Please let me know what you think.
hi all, interesting to have this discussion. I agree with Chris’s concept curators are making a judgement call related to the scoop.it topic’s stated aim: “Most interesting findings from participating in 2014’s ocTEL MOOC. http://octel.alt.ac.uk/ Co-curated by a number of participants.” as this is a shared curation it is useful for each curator to add a comment which illustrates why their post is “interesting” and we will start to see a collective “voice” emerging that may sometimes be contradictory or even contraversial and give us a chance to find out how heterogeneous this group is, it is just possible that we will all agree on the “interesting findings”, that is not beyond the bounds of possibility either
The test of this channel will be how much external interest it generates and how it disseminated the activity in ocTEL. I am not aware of how the suggestions are being generated at the moment, possibly just from the #ocTEL ? perhpas co-moderators would like to suggest additional tags/sources to include?
Hi Teresa and Steven,
To make it short, i do agree totally with Teresa on everything, especially about adding some key words for the search as i can only see posts from this website.
I actually try to search online for articles to curate on my other topics, mainly because the search in French is not possible and it doesn not bring accurate results most of the time.
thanks Julie. Steven, is there any way we as curators can see the chosen sources and key words?
