I spent over 20 years teaching English, in india, Spain but mostly the UK. I was a teacher trainer for about 6 years but moved into learning technology training in 2008. I try to persuade colleagues to use Moodle, IWBs, mobile learning, student response systems, lecture capture … generally to enhance teaching and learning with the wonderful array of tools at our disposal!
What are you BIG and little questions? Perhaps we share some of those and can discuss in our nice, small and manageable group? I’ve posted mine in my new blog http://bgoctel.blogspot.co.uk/
Bye for now!
I am totally sold to the idea of enhancing teaching with technology (or should I say digital technology?) but I understand that it could be a bit overwhelming for some teachers. I believe education will naturally move into the digital era and reluctant teachers will be inspired by the results and by students expectations. In another octTEL group they were talking about “leading the horse to the water” and what to do if “the horse is not thirsty”! I think education is the key and the more people know about the results and the success stories the more interested and “thirsty” they will get.
My big questions is similar to Barbara’s second one: “How to measure impact” but before that, how to “ACHIEVE impact”! What works and what doesn’t and how do we make things work. I’m hoping that in this course we will share lots of ideas and tools to explore in our classrooms.
My other big question is: Are students ready? Do they want to be autonomous learners? There is a lot of talk about education for all, everywhere and at any time, but I’m not sure students are ready to take this responsibility and I wonder if they want to take it!
